The Adventures of Staying at Home

Mr. Carruthers wrote a book!!!  The Adventures of Staying at Home

The Adventures of Staying at Home is a short story about 2 curious kids keeping themselves entertained during social distancing. The children discover the wonders of making art and crafts, playing games, creating music, and using their imaginations to go on wild adventures.

Patrick Carruthers is a teacher at Avon View High School in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and Luke Carruthers is a graphic designer and illustrator in Calgary, Alberta. The two brothers have been creating art and silly stories together as long as they can remember, and hope that this one will brighten peoples’ day.

Information for Students, Parents and Guardians April 14, 2020

Information for Students, Parents and Guardians April 14, 2020

Students, Parents and Guardians are reminded to check their emails and Google Classrooms on a regular basis.  Staff email addresses are on our school website, click on the yellow “Parents” link that is near the top, scroll down and click on “Staff Contacts”, once you find the teacher that you are looking for just click on their email address.

Please note:

  • All staff are working remotely from home.  Phone calls to the school are still being answered and emails are being checked regularly.  If you have a question or concern, please do not hesitate to contact us.  If we do not know the answer, we will try our best to find the answer for you.

  • Teachers are providing instruction in the best way they can, using email and electronic opportunities. They are focusing on the key concepts/outcomes left to teach in their courses. They will provide helpful feedback to the students who do the assignments and they will record what is being completed and to what degree of success.

  • Teachers have let students know what office hours they are available in the week but are also doing their best to reply to student needs outside of that when they can.

  • Once the DEECD finalizes the plan for evaluating student work we will follow that plan.

  • Students are encouraged to stay closely connected to any staff member that can help them as they work from home. We know students will do their best given their individual circumstances and we don’t want anyone to feel any undue pressure during this time. Reach out so we can help.

  • AVRCE has yet to determine a plan for students who do not have internet access at home. Once they do we will be helping those students connect to learning in their courses. Thank you so much for your patience in this regard.

We are thinking of all of our families and students as we adjust to this new way of teaching and learning. Please do not hesitate to reach out to either 902-792-6740 or avhs@avrce.ca.

Please take care, stay healthy and stay safe,

Cindy Dickie

Principal – on behalf of all AVHS staff
